Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 16, 2026

Your resume is one of the most personal documents you own. This policy explains what data CareerQ collects, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

1. Overview

CareerQ (“we”, “us”) provides a resume builder, ATS checker, job board, and application tracker. This policy applies to our website and web application. By using CareerQ, you agree to the practices described here.

2. Data we collect

We collect only what the product needs to function:

  • Account data: name, email address, and password hash (or Google OAuth identity) used for sign-in and verification.
  • Profile data: phone, location, job preferences, and experience details you enter during onboarding or in settings.
  • Resume content: sections, text, and files you create or upload in the editor, so you can edit, preview, and export them.
  • Application data: jobs you save, applications you track, and their statuses.
  • Technical data: device, browser, and usage events that help us fix bugs and improve the product.

3. How we use your data

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the resume builder, ATS scoring, job matching, and tracking features.
  • Authenticate you and keep your account secure, including verification emails and password resets.
  • Send transactional emails (verification codes, password resets, billing receipts).
  • Understand aggregate usage so we can fix problems and prioritize features.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your resume content with advertisers, data brokers, or employers — your applications are sent only when you choose to apply.

4. When we share data

We share data only with the infrastructure providers required to run the service (hosting, database, email delivery, payments), each bound by their own security and confidentiality obligations. We disclose data if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users.

5. Data retention and deletion

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual resumes at any time from the dashboard. Deleting your account removes your profile, resumes, and tracked applications. Backups expire on their normal rotation cycle after deletion.

6. Your rights

  • Access and export the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate profile information at any time in settings.
  • Delete your resumes or your entire account.
  • Opt out of non-essential emails; transactional emails required for the service cannot be disabled while your account is active.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@careercopilot.com and we will respond within 30 days.

7. Security

We protect data with encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), hashed passwords, scoped database access, and session-based authentication. No system is perfectly secure, so we encourage strong, unique passwords and prompt reporting of anything suspicious. See our Security page for more detail.

8. Children

CareerQ is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be announced by email or in-app notice, and the “Last updated” date at the top will always reflect the current version.

10. Contact
